Playmaker Teko Modise believes Cape Town City have what it takes to get the better of his former side Mamelodi Sundowns.

The two sides are set to meet at the Athlone Stadium on Friday, and with only four points separating both teams, the clash could be a potential title decider.

However, it won’t be easy for the Citizens who know all too well that coach Pitso Mosimane’s men will have a point to prove, knowing that they have never beaten City in all three of their previous meetings.

The most recent clash played in December saw the Mother City-based outfit walk away from Tshwane with a 1-0 victory.

Nonetheless, this time around the clash holds an extra importance as City will look to close the gap on the log leaders, according to City’ veteran midfielder.

“It is a very important game, they are on top of the log and we are a few points behind,” Modise told the media ahead of Friday’s crunch encounter.

“The aim and ambition is to try and minimise the points between us and the leaders, that’s why it is going to be important for us to get a good result against Sundowns even though we know the qualities that they have and they are such a good team,” he explained.

“We are also a very good team with so much ambition but on the day, whoever wants it more will win the game," Modise

Modise admitted that he is wary that City will need to put aside their goalscoring woes if they are to overcome the Tshwane giants.

City have managed to score only 20 goals in 19 games this season, 11 goals shy of Sundowns’ impressive goal tally so far this season.

“We are playing very well but one thing that is disappointing is that we are not scoring as many goals as we are supposed to and hopefully on the day we can cause an upset,” Modise added.
