With Mamelodi Sundowns yet to win any silverware this season, fans will certainly be hoping that the Tshwane giants use the Telkom Knockout to get back the winning feeling.
Sundowns have previously failed to win both the MTN8 and Caf Champions League, but on Saturday the Tshwane giants have been awarded a golden opportunity to put their indifferent form aside and give themselves something to smile about.
Nonetheless, Lebohang Maboe, who has been one of Sundowns’ shining lights, admits that victory is a must as Sundowns travel to Limpopo to take on an unpredictable Baroka in the quarter-finals.
“It’s a game that we have to win,” Maboe, who has scored two goals in the league so far told the media.
“We haven’t yet won any trophy. Sundowns is a cup winning team and every season, you expected to win each and every trophy that you will be playing in,” he added.
“So, we really looking forward to the game on Saturday against Baroka, and hopefully we will win and go through to the semis and then the final,” he said.
Meanwhile, Maboe has revealed his desire to put the team before personal glory.
“Winning as many trophies with the team that I can and making the team that will be in the Afcon next year,” Maboe set as his goals for the season.
The 24-year-old though, credits the coach’s belief in him for his current successs.
“It’s the confidence that the coach has given me by saying ‘just go out and express yourself’. I go out there to express how I feel and do whatever it is that I want to do with the ball. So, it’s the confidence that the coach gives to me,” he credited.
“Right now, I am at Mamelodi Sundowns, and I’m just looking forward to doing good with the team and helping the team win as many trophies as we possibly can,” he expressed.
