Last week betting firm SportPesa announced they had canceled all sponsorship deals with sports federations as well as teams.
Among the teams affected were Kenyan Premier League winners Gor Mahia and GOtv Shield champions AFC Leopards. Goal understands the two clubs have already engaged several companies in order to seal another sponsorship deal before the season kicks-off.
However, it seems SportPesa is willing to reconsider the two teams and has already initiated early talks as confirmed by clubs' representatives.
“We have met with them (SportPesa), like three times, they are willing to re-negotiate, but nothing has been documented, it is just a verbal communication,” Gor Mahia's Ronald Ngala told Goal, and was echoed by AFC Leopards chairman Dan Mule.
The two teams are preparing for continental assignments next month.
