'We all cried' - Daniel Arzani's parents emotional after Socceroos World Cup selection

After a breakout season with Melbourne City, Australian young gun Daniel Arzani has sealed his spot in the Socceroos World Cup squad.

The 19-year-old made his debut for the green and gold off the bench against the Czech Republic and was told not long after he had made the cut for Russia.

Set to be the youngest Socceroo at the World Cup, Arzani's rise through the ranks comes a decade after his family migrated from Iran and his selection in the final squad was a moment that left is family in tears.

"We were landing in Antalya when he told us the news and we all cried," Arzani's father John told Nine News.

"So happy, so proud.

"We owe something, and I wish that Arzani will make Australia proud of himself.

"He’s unexpected, you never know what’s going to happen in the next five minutes in a game."

Arzani was a real weapon for City this past A-League season, striking twice and grabbing a handful of assists as he burst onto the scene.

Getting a few minutes of international action in Austria, Arzani looms as a real wild card option Bert van Marwijk off the bench in Russia.

"The fact he is with the last 23, that says enough," van Marwijk said.

"He's improving but he has to learn a lot. He is a player with something extra."
