It may be on the other side of the world but official figures show there is going to be a sea of Socceroos fans swarming Russian cities and World Cup matches.

According to FIFA, 36,359 tickets have been allocated to green and gold supporters - ranking Australia in ninth in World Cup tickets purchased by overseas countries, one spot ahead of England (32,362).

Host nation Russia (871,797) lead the way in seats bought, followed by the USA (88,825), Brazil (72,512), Colombia (65,234) and Germany (62,541).

China, who like the USA failed to qualify for the World Cup, also make the top 10 with 40,251 tickets acquired.

The Socceroos open their campaign in Russia with a tough opening group C match against tournament fancy France in Kazan on June 16.

After a short trip south to Samara, Australia face Denmark on June 21 before finishing the group stage against Peru in Sochi on June 26.

If the green and gold finish top of group C, a round-of-16 match in Kazan awaits while a second-placed finish means a knockout match in Nizhny Novgorod.
