SDT stops KPL play-off between Thika United and Ushuru FC

The much-awaited Kenya Premier League promotion play-off between Thika United and Ushuru FC will not take place on Wednesday as was initially planned.

This is after the Sports Dispute Tribunal issued a temporary injunction stopping the two-legged exercise that was set to take place on December 6 and 10.

Thika United sort the help of the local dispute resolution body challenging Football Kenya Federation move to allow for a play-off between the 16th placed team in the KPL and third-placed side in the lower tier National Super League.

Thika United finished one place above the automatic relegation position in the 18-team KPL league while Ushuru came third in the NSL.

But Thika now wants FKF to honour the 2015 Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) between KPL and all clubs which allows for only two teams from the NSL to be promoted and the same number in the top tier to drop down.

The first leg of the play-off was set for Wednesday with the return leg scheduled on Sunday.
