The two teams played a goalless draw until half time. Less than five minutes after the restart, Samatta who was played for a full 90 minutes for the second time in row, was brought down in the box by Liege’s defender Sebastian Pocognoli and referee awarded a penalty to the home side.
Genk’s Leandro Trossard scored from the spot kick and that goal proved enough for the home team to grab all three points. On the table, Genk have three points after two games following their first match defeat against Club Brugge.
