Gary Neville is refusing to accept that Mohamed Salah is the best Premier League player since Thierry Henry, with 14 names offered to counter a claim from Piers Morgan.

The Liverpool forward has been in stunning form this season, netting 31 times across all competitions.

He has exceeded all expectations at Anfield, with a £36.9 million transfer fee made to look quite the bargain.

Salah has been able to maintain his high standards throughout a first campaign back in England since taking in a forgettable stint at Chelsea.

Plaudits have rained down on the Egypt international, with it even suggested that his left football is comparable to that of Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi.

Morgan has now added his voice to a debate regarding Salah’s standing in the global game, with a famous Arsenal fan of the opinion that the 25-year-old is the best English football has seen since French legend Henry graced the Gunners’ books.

Neville, though, believes too much is being made of a few months of fine form, with there countless other players who have impressed over a longer period of time in the last 10 years or so.

Pressed to pick a top 10 of those who can be considered to have bettered Salah’s achievements, the former Manchester United defender had little trouble reeling off a list of names.

Having run through a group of star names to have graced the likes of United, Manchester City, Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal down the years, Neville was also prepared to support the claims of a follower suggesting that Real Madrid’s ex-Tottenham star Gareth Bale should be in the mix.

There can be little doubt that Salah is still some way short of being considered a Premier League great, but he is clearly on the right track.

He has been a revelation at Liverpool and carrying that form through to the end of the current campaign and into the next will help to edge him ever closer to the likes of Henry and the rest of the English top-flight elite.
