RB Leipzig defender Bernardo has admitted it is "impossible" for a club other than Bayern Munich to win the Bundesliga at the moment.

The Bavarian giants are 10 points clear of RB Leipzig at the top of the table and look set to make it five straight league titles.

Klopp: We need to be like Chelsea

Speaking to Goal, Bernardo conceded that the reigning champions are in a class of their own in Germany, claiming that no other side has the requisite wealth or resources to mount a viable title challenge.

"Reaching Bayern is practically impossible in the Bundesliga," Bernardo argues in an exclusive interview. "It's a much wealthier club, with much better players.

"There's no opponent for Bayern. If we had two, three, four opponents who could take points from them [it could be different]. But there's not.

"So I think that, today, it's an impossible task."

RB Leipzig had a chance to close the gap to Bayern when they faced off in December but the surprise challengers instead fell to a 3-0 loss at the Allianz Arena.

Bernardo confesses that there was an obvious gulf in quality on the night, revealing that was particularly impressed with the performance of one of his compatriots.

"For me, [their best player] was Douglas Costa," the right-back enthuses. "But I think I chose the wrong tactic – I gave him too much space."

"I'm a fast player, but he has an incredible explosion of speed. I gave him space to run and he won most of the balls."

Though RB Leipzig almost certainly won't catch Bayern, they've hugely impressed in their first Bundesliga season, sitting in second position one year after playing in the 2. Bundesliga.

"To tell the truth I expected us to fight relegation," Bernardo admits.

"But now with the team we have, the campaign we're having and the level of our opponents, I think we have all that it takes to establish ourselves at least as a top-five team in Germany, to always fight for a spot in the European competitions."

On a personal level, Bernardo has struggled with injuries this season but has still managed to make 14 league starts and the Brazilian says he sees Leipzig as his long-term home after joining from Red Bull Salzburg in the off-season.

"For now, I see myself playing for Red Bull," he insists. "For me, it's the perfect project. I'm identified with the club and I see a great future for this club."
