President Uhuru Kenyatta has assured Harambee Stars of the necessary support as part of the team’s preparation for the forthcoming Afcon finals.

Kenya booked her first appearance at the continental stage since 2004 with a match to spare in the ongoing qualifiers following the suspension of Sierra Leone.

Stars are top of Group F with seven points, one more than their next opponents, Ghana while Ethiopia sits third with a single point.

But with the team requiring Sh200 million budget to facilitate their preparations to the Afcon, the President has assured coach Sebastien Migne and his charges that they will be adequately prepared. “Congratulations Harambee Stars for qualifying for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

“I assure you of my support and that of the Government to facilitate and provide you with the necessary resources to ensure you are well prepared for the task ahead. Hongera,” said the president in a Tweet.

Kenya has planned three build-up matches, including a friendly against Ivory Coast. The match, according to Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa, will be staged in France, where the team is expected to pitch camp for at least two weeks before proceeding for the finals.

The continental showpiece was initially scheduled to be held in Cameroon before Caf stripped them of the hosting rights. Sports Cabinet Secretary also added: “Our National football Team Harambee Stars have qualified for the Afcon 2019.

“This championship has eluded us for the past 15 years. I thank our boys for putting up a spirited fight against all the teams in their pool to see them qualify to represent Kenya for the Afcon 2019.”
