The embattled Magpies boss believes his midfielders will start scoring once more to brighten the outfit’s campaign in the Premier League

Newcastle United coach Rafael Benitez believes his midfielders, including Christian Atsu, would find their scoring boots soon following a terrible start to the Premier League campaign.

The Magpies are without a win after seven games, with the likes of Kenedy, Matt Ritchie, Jacob Murphy and Atsu yet to open their goal account this term.

They were also not impressive in the 2-0 home defeat to Leicester City on Saturday but Benitez remains optimistic.

“I like that you ask this question, because against Leicester I was confident that one of the wingers will score a goal,” said Benitez, as quoted by Shieldsgazette.

“That’s the positive thing. They know that they need to score more, and I’ve told them before. I was speaking with Kenedy, Ritchie, Murphy and Atsu at different points this week. You talk with them and ask them to do things.

“They are always trying to do what is best for the team, trying to encourage them to do things, and I’m sure that they will be fine. Hopefully soon. They need some time, but they will do it,” he added.

Newcastle, who are now 18th on the log with only two points, will travel to Old Trafford next weekend to face Manchester United.
