Kalidou Koulibaly has said he aims to ‘write the story of the future of Senegal football’ and such has no regrets choosing the African country over France.
The Napoli defender was born in France to Senegalese parents and featured for the Europe side’s U20 team before switching allegiance in September 2015.
Koulibaly represented the Teranga Lions at the 2017 African Cup of Nations and was part of the side that played at the 2018 World Cup.
"I don't have any regrets because I want to write the story of the future of Senegal football and I hope I'll be able to do that," Koulibaly told BBC Sport.
"For me [the World Cup] was a good experience because I wanted to show that Senegal is one of the best teams in Africa.
"I spoke about the decision with my wife and I chose to go with Senegal.
"When I saw the light in the eyes of my parents when I told them I had chosen Senegal, I was really happy and comfortable with my choice."
Koulibaly has become one of the sought-after defenders in world football, with Napoli recently tying down to a new long-term deal.
This season, he has been an ever-present fixture in Carlo Ancelotti’s side, playing in all 13 Serie A matches to help the Naples outfit to a place below league leaders Juventus.
They play Atalanta in their next league game on Monday evening.
