Maritzburg United's Lebohang Maboe turns his attention to next season's MTN8

With the 2017/18 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season having just concluded, one of Maritzburg United’s star players has already turned his attention to next season.

The Team of Choice enjoyed a meteoric rise over the past 12 months under the mentorship of coach Fadlu Davids, where they not only reached an MTN8 semi-final, but went on to finish in fourth place on the league table as well as reached the final of the Nedbank Cup.

This success on the field has led many of their stars to receive deserved recognition for their exploits as they were nominated in several categories for the upcoming PSL Awards.

Players such Siphesihle Ndlovu and Lebohang Maboe were just some of Maritzburg’s top performers this season, but despite what can be seen as success, the latter admits disappointment that the club were unable to win a trophy.

But with Maritzburg having qualified for the MTN8 again, Maboe has already expressed his desire to lift the cup and finally complement their impressive performances with silverware.

“Now we know the feeling of reaching the semi-finals. We also know what it’s like to be in the final. Next season we will have a better idea on each and every stage of the competition,” Maboe told IOL.

“We will be gunning for the MTN8 coming next season,” Maboe expressed.

“We worked so hard but we got nothing to show for it. It is not a good feeling,” he admitted.

“I’m sure that is not what we want come next season. We don’t want the same feeling again,” Maboe said.

Meanwhile, Maboe who has been nominated as Nedbank Cup for both the Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player and Player of the Tournament award has backed himself to walk away with at least one of the prizes on the night.

“I’m backing myself to win one of the awards that I’ve been nominated for. Myself and Siphesihle Ndlovu both deserve to win the award. We’ve been united as a team. We have fought for each other the whole season. Hard work has been key for my success,” he added.
