Former Juventus midfielder Marchisio set for Portugal move with Porto and Benfica interested

Claudio Marchisio is set for a move to Portugal, with Porto or Benfica his most likely destinations, Goal understands.

The 32-year-old midfielder made 389 appearances with Juventus after making his first-team debut in 2006, and went on to win seven consecutive Serie A titles with the club.

Earlier this month, Juve announced that Marchisio's contract had been terminated by mutual consent.

Goal understands that Sporting CP had an interest Marchisio earlier this month but that interest has fizzled in recent days as the club moves on to other targets including Nicola Sansone of Villarreal, Sevilla's Luis Muriel, and Enner Valencia of Tigres.

But Sporting's interest has alerted Marchisio to the possibility of continuing his career in Portugal, an idea which the player and his family find appealing.

The Italy international is set for a meeting with Porto in the coming days over a possible move to the defending Primeira Liga champions.

But Benfica are also interested in Marchisio, and could have an advantage as the player and his family are understood to prefer a move to Lisbon over Porto.
