Matildas snatch draw against England

An understrength Matildas team has earned a 1-1 draw against England in a friendly at Craven Cottage.

Claire Polkinghorne headed in the 85th minute equaliser from a Elise Kellond-Knight's corner - in a match England dominated for the most part.

The home side went ahead after only 21 minutes when star Fran Kirby slotted it in on the spin to create a deserved lead.

Against a Matildas team missing up to seven starting players, including superstar Sam Kerr, the English had several chances to kill the game before half-time but failed to extend their lead through lack of luck and missed opportunities.

Before the main break, England had a clear penalty shout denied and a goal incorrectly chalked off for offside.

The result means the Matildas end their tough European trip without a win - after a 2-0 loss to France on Saturday.

They will prepare for two home matches against Chile in November ahead of the Women's World Cup draw in December.

Usain Bolt likely to make his starting debut for Central Coast

Mariners coach Mike Mulvey has revealed Olympic champion Usain Bolt could be involved from the start in Friday night's friendly against a Macarthur South West United team.

The Jamaican sprinter has only clocked up 20 minutes of game time - in a friendly at the end of August - since joining the Gosford-based club on trial.

"From a fitness perspective, you could probably start him. Whether we do or not, (there's) probably a good chance," Mulvey told reporters on Tuesday.

"But we'll weigh it up as the week goes. Last week we rested him a little bit because he had a bit of a knee injury, but that's all gone."

Fox Sports will be telecasting the game live from 7.30pm.
