Lennon thanks doctors, fans, Everton as he returns to training following stress-related illness

Everton midfielder Aaron Lennon has returned to training following treatment for "a stress-related illness."

The 30-year-old took time away from the game in May after police detained him and took him to hospital.

The Toffees released a statement at the time, saying: “Aaron Lennon is currently receiving care and treatment for a stress-related illness. The club is supporting him through this and his family has appealed for privacy at this time."

Rooney: Everton is no retirement home

The England international now appears to have recovered from the illness, posting a note of gratitude on Twitter.

"I've had a good first week of training and can't wait to kick on now," Lennon said.

"The support I've had from Everton, Spurs, their fans, football fans and concerned members of the general public has been incredible."

Lennon joined Everton on loan from Tottenham in 2015, and later agreed to a permanent £4.5 million transfer.
