Los Blancos are on a disappointing run of form and they will hope to amend that by taking the advantage in the quarter-final

Real Madrid will hope to kick-start a turnaround in fortunes when they travel to Leganes in the first leg of the Copa del Rey quarter-final on Thursday.

Zinedine Zidane's side are on a terrible run at the moment, winning once in their last five games and they have failed to register a victory in their last three games.

Having slipped well out of the Liga title race, Los Blancos must invest their energy into other competitions and the Copa del Rey is one they have a realistic chance of winning.

SQUADS & TEAM NEWS

Position Leganes players

Midfielders Gumbao, Gabriel, El Zhar, Szymanowski, Eraso, Perez, Ramos, Brasnac

Like many clubs, Leganes have opted to switch things up in the Copa del Rey and they may continue to do so, despite facing Real Madrid.

Alexander Szymanowski is unlikely to be involved as he recovers from injury, but there is plenty of talent in the squad, including former Juventus youngster Gabriel and on-loan Celta striker Claudio Beauvue.

Potential Leganes starting XI: Champagne; Siovas, Tito, Munoz, Rico; Gumbaeo, Perez, El Zhar, Eraso, Naranjo; Beauvue.

Position Real Madrid players
Goalkeepers Navas, Casilla, Zidane
Defenders Carvajal, Vallejo, Varane, Nacho, Marcelo, Theo, Achraf, Tejero
Midfielders Kroos, Modric, Casemiro, Vasquez, Asensio, Isco, Kovacic, Ceballos
Forwards Ronaldo, Bale, Mayoral

Zidane has rotated his squad in the Copa del Rey and is likely to do the same against Leganes. Sergio Ramos is out of contention with an injury, while Marcos Llorente picked up a shoulder injury last week. Karim Benzema is also unlikely to feature as he recovers from a hamstring injury.

The French coach says he has all his players available and refused to confirm whether he would make many changes to the starting line-up, preferring to leave the opposition guessing.

Potential Real Madrid starting XI:  Casilla; Carvajal, Nacho, Varane, Marcelo; Casemiro, Kroos, Isco; Ronaldo, Bale, Mayoral.

GAME PREVIEW

Since losing heavily to bitter rivals Barcelona at home before the turn of the year, Real Madrid have been on somewhat of a downward spiral and they desperately need to start putting wins on the board if they are to salvage something from the season.

While they kicked off the year with a 3-0 win over Numancia, Madrid have subsequently drawn twice and were beaten at home by Villarreal in their last match — a result which saw them slip 19 points behind Baca in the league table.

Zidane is under intense pressure to arrest that slide and pick up positive results, particularly with a busy period of games ahead and the Champions League knock-out stage looming on the horizon.

"I don’t overthink anything, I live day to day and I’ll not change that," Zidane said, ahead of the game. "The situation is what it is today. In the two years that I have been here, when we have won a lot, I’ve always said the same thing. I know the situation and what this club is like and I always go day to day".

However, if he does not secure a convincing victory on Thursday, the two-time Champions League-winning coach won't have many days left at Madrid.
