KPL to Gor Mahia: It is too late to postpone Chemelil Sugar fixture

Kenyan Premier League now say they will not be in a position to postpone Gor Mahia’s next match against Chemelil Sugar.

On Monday, Gor Mahia coach Dylan Kerr cried out to the league body to give them some time off by rescheduling some of their matches starting with the game against the sugar millers that is scheduled for Thursday.

With an average of three matches per week, K’Ogalo, have now found it hard wading through the congested fixtures that will see them play up to 10 games by the end of August if all factors remain constant.

The Briton stressed that the many matches are not healthy for his players and asked KPL to consider rescheduling some of them. "Please, let KPL realize we cannot play this amount of games week in week out. It is really affecting our performance,” Kerr told Goal.

“We are carrying Kenyan football for all of Africa to see but the importance of the game v Rayon and USM are paramount and yet we have 5 important games; 3 exceptionally important games in 14 days.”

But in a rejoinder, KPL CEO Jack Oguda says it will not be possible to act now with any changes. “We cannot alter fixtures now because we also have a tight schedule. Furthermore, Gor Mahia have not written to us to complain. They have asked to play Chemelil in Kisumu and we cannot change the fixture now because of the rules.”

After taking on Chemelil, K’Ogalo will tackle Rayon Sports in a Caf match on Sunday.
