Situma conceded a penalty that gifted AFC Leopards the opening goal in a 2-1 victory over Mathare United on Sunday. Centre referee Badr Yassin pointed to the spot after Situma brought down Jaffery Owiti even though TV replays showed that the incident happened outside the box.
“For sure that was not a penalty,” lamented Situma after the game.
“When I decided to tackle him, I knew he was outside the box. I was shocked by his (Badr’s) decision,” Situma told Mathare United website.
The experienced defender, however, made amends with an equalizer in the first half to cancel out Whyvonne Isuza's opener for Ingwe from the spot.
“This was my third game and scoring was a big plus. It motivates me to continue working hard and repay the faith that the coach has shown in me.”
Situma has however, called for focus in the remaining games, even as Mathare United still waits for their first victory in eight games.
“We just need to remain focused and approach the remaining nine matches with the same mentality. We showed a lot of improvement in this match and that shows that the hard work in training is paying off.”
Mathare United are seventh on the log with 35 points.
