Islam Slimani’s brace hands Fenerbahce first Europa League victory

Islam Slimani scored a brace as Fenerbahce defeated Spartak Trnava 2-0 in their second Group D outing in the Europa League.

The 30-year-old’s goals ensured the Turkish Super Lig club saw off their Slovak opponents as they secured their third win across all competitions this campaign.

Slimani broke the deadlock in the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium with his 51st-minute effort and later sealed maximum points in the 68th minute, with Andre Ayew providing the assist.

The Leicester City loanee was later substituted in the 88th minute while Ayew was replaced by Mathieu Valbuena moments after receiving a yellow card in the 73rd minute.

Despite their 4-1 loss to Dinamo Zagreb a fortnight ago, Fenerbahce climbed up to the second spot in their group table with three points from two matches.

Slimani has registered three goals in eight appearances for Phillip Cocu's side since he arrived from Leicester on a season-long loan in August.
