Five of the eight foreigners were not available for the Goan franchise in their first pre-season friendly in India...

FC Goa had an injury-free pre-season in Spain before returning to Goa for their final leg of preparations before the start of the fourth edition of the Indian Super League (ISL).

After three seasons under the tutelage of Brazil legend Zico, the Gaurs have adopted a Spanish avatar under head coach Sergio Lobera this season. The change in coach has also seen the majority of foreigners hailing from Spain instead of Brazil which was the case until last year.

FC Goa have registered six players from Spain, besides one Portuguese and the other from Morocco to complete the tally of eight overseas players.

However, despite the entire squad getting playing time during their tour to Spain, only three foreigners - Bruno Pinheiro, Ahmed Jahouh and Manuel Lanzarote - were fielded in the 1-2 loss against East Bengal on Friday in which Manvir Singh scored a consolation goal. And although Sergio Juste (Chechi) and Edu Bedia were named among the substitutes, it was expected that the duo were unlikely to be fielded.

Manuel Arana had picked up a slight hamstring injury in one of the training sessions in Goa prior to the game against East Bengalwhile Ferran Corominas (Coro) and Adrian Colunga were believed to be suffering from stomach upsets along with a few others in the team.

In the pre-season results in Spain, Lanzarote scored four times, followed by Coro and Colunga (three goals) while Arana and Goan midfielder Brandon Fernandes scored once. The ISL outfit returned to India on the back of three wins after suffering two initial defeats.

At least two more pre-season friendly games are lined up for FC Goa wherein they come across another I-League giant Mohun Bagan next on November 9 at the Fatorda stadium in Margao (Kick-off at 19:00 IST). They are then expected to play Gokulam FC later.

The Bagan game will be preceded by a squad unveiling ceremony from 17:15 IST. The only players who are certain to miss these games are Pronay Halder and Narayan Das, who are in the national team camp in Mumbai.
