Invited NPFL players must look beyond Liberia friendly, advises John Obuh

Away from their invites for Nigeria friendly tie against Liberia, the quartet of Mfon Udoh, Ebube Duru, Sunday Adetunji and Olamilekan Adeleye must do well to remain in Gernot Rohr's plan to pounce on opportunities when they eventually arrive, says John Obuh.

Enyimba strikers Udoh and Adetunji, Lobi Stars left-back Duru and centre-back Adeleye will join Ikechuwku Ezenwa and 20 foreign-based players for the trip to Monrovia where they take on the Lone Stars in Tuesday's clash

And the former Kwara United coach, unfazed about whether they get played by Rohr in the tune-up encounter, advises the Nigeria Professional Football League players to continue to work hard to get called up on a consistent basis.

"Well, it's not a new thing [that NPFL players get invites] as that's something we've been praying for a long time," Obuh told Goal.

"During the time of [Stephen] Keshi, we use to have it.

"The man came and maybe he's under pressure to deliver and he's not looking at home-based players. But then, with this invites, it's still a good thing.

"It does not matter even if they don't stand the chance immediately, all they need is to get appointed to the team [on a regular] and when the opportunity comes, they take their chances."

Another opportunity to get a look-in comes in October as Nigeria play Libya for their third 2019 Afcon qualifiers clash against - on the back of their maiden win over Seychelles on Saturday.
