The Bafana Bafana midfielder suffered mixed emotions having scored but slipped to defeat in the Taca de Portugal final

South African midfielder Bongani Zungu was once again impressive as he found the net for Vitoria Guimaraes in their 2-1 loss to Benfica in a Portuguese Cup final on Sunday.

Despite Guimaraes’ loss, Zungu dazzled against some of Europe’s best midfielders and also got on the scoresheet in the cup final loss.

Having headed to the tunnel for the interval deadlocked, two quick goals early in the second half from Raul Jimenez and Eduardo Salvio were enough to hand Benfica their historic 26th Taca de Portugal title.

Zungu nodded home a late consolation goal from a corner kick but Aguias hung on for the memorable triumph which completed their treble at Estadio Nacional.

The 24-year-old, who also made his return to the Bafana Bafana squad for the opening 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Nigeria, has capped off a great introduction to his maiden campaign in the Portuguese top tier where he totaled a joint 24 appearances and scored twice.

Reports have also suggested that the cup final appearance could have been the last for the Os Vimaranenses fan darling.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder is believed to be courted by a number of clubs in and outside Portugal.
