I-League 2017: V Soundararajan - We will challenge for the title in future

The Rohit Ramesh-owned club shared spoils with Gokulam Kerala FC and their gaffer was content with the result.

Chennai City FC bounced back with an improved performance in the face-off against Gokulam Kerala FC at Calicut with a 1-1 result. Kamo Bayi and Jean-Michel Joachim registered their names on the score-sheet for their respective outfits.

Reflecting on the performance, coach V Soundararajan claimed he was pleased with the full-time result. The gaffer mentioned that his side lacks strength in the attack and will focus on the same in the upcoming matches.

“I'm satisfied with the result. Gokulam (Kerala FC) is playing at home and so getting a point is valuable. The team is not settled properly. Our next match is against Minerva in Punjab. In the team, I want to correct our forward section. Our forwards are weak and hence, I want to improve the attack,’’ he commented.

Further, the coach expressed that the Rohit Ramesh-owned club will compete for championship in future once there’s a balance in the squad.

“Chennai City have taken players only from rural areas in Tamil Nadu. In future, we will settle and we will challenge,’’ he concluded.

On the other hand, Gokulam Kerala FC coach Bino George too was disappointed with the fact that his team missed several opportunities to score.

“We had lost three foreigners to injury. We set our team based on them. In the second half, we dominated a bit more. Both substitutions towards the end of the second half were due to injuries. (Lelo Blaise) Mbele is a very good forward but we lost him due to a hamstring problem,’’ he explained.

The hosts came close to scoring on several occasions in the second half but lack of clinical finishing cost them a couple of points. Highlighting on the same, George said, “We threw the Syrian forward (Khaled Al Saleh) up the field to improve our attack in the second half. We missed four to five open chances. This will be solved soon. Our target is to grab all points available at home,’’ he signed off.
