'Hopefully Reina will start at Milan' - Raiola drops major hint over Donnarumma future

Gianluigi Donnarumma looks likely to leave AC Milan this summer if his agent, Mino Raiola, gets his way.

Donnarumma's future is again coming under the microscope as the transfer window begins to come into view despite only having signed a new contract last summer.

Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have both been linked with the teenager, with reports earlier this season claiming Raiola wanted the four-year deal to be torn up amid claims of bullying by the Rossoneri.

Milan's admission that they are trying to sign out-of-contract Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina on a free transfer has only increased speculation surrounding Donnarumma, and Raiola dropped a major hint that he will be looking to move his client away from San Siro at the end of the campaign.

"Will Reina or Donnarumma be the starter for Milan next year? Hopefully Reina," Raiola said having been posed the question by Radio 24.

While Donnarumma's club future remains a hot topic in Italy, the question of when he will become Italy's No.1 has reared its head following Gianluigi Buffon's decision to come out of international retirement.

Buffon announced he was stepping down from Azzurri duty following their failure to qualify for the World Cup back in November but was named in Luigi Di Biagio's squad for the upcoming friendlies with Argentina and England.

Some reports have suggested that the 40-year-old may well look to continue representing his country through to Euro 2020 - a move that would potentially leave Donnarumma playing second fiddle.

And, despite Buffon citing the death of Italy team-mate Davide Astori as a reason for his desire to return, Raiola hit out at the decision to select the veteran Juventus captain given the need for the team to go in a new direction following their failure to reach Russia this summer.

"I'm amazed by the choice of Buffon, who I love, but that's just how Italy is, I need to tell you that," he said.

Buffon Donnarumma Meret - Italy

"I've been trying to change things for 10 or 15 years without success.

"We give the national team to [Giampiero] Ventura and now Di Biagio - who has never achieved anything at a high level - and then await results.

"If you win you're right, because that's all that counts in Italy and, for me, that's wrong.

"If we call Buffon today we have to take him to the Euros, that seems clear to me.

"We'll only see Donnarumma with Milan and not with the national team, because if a new cycle starts with Buffon he'll continue up to the European Championships. If not then he [Donnarumma] will do it."
