Hertha Berlin's Luckassen set for one-month spell in the treatment room

Hertha Berlin centre-back of Ghanaian descent Derrick Luckassen has been ruled out of action until the New Year, the club has announced.

The Netherlands youth International is set for some time on the sidelines after picking up an injury during practice on Wednesday. 

The news is undoubtedly a blow to the 23-year-old, who is trying to fight his way to become a regular member of Pal Dardai's set-up following a summer move from PSV Eindhoven.

"Derrick Luckassen [is] out until after Christmas," the German club announced on Thursday. 

"Hertha’s centre-back will not be available for the rest of the year as he has been ruled out with an ankle ligament injury.

"Derrick Luckassen picked up an ankle injury during training on Wednesday. 

"A study on Thursday showed that he had picked up an injury to his ankle ligament. 

"The Dutchman will not play now until after the Winter break."

Luckassen has found opportunities far and few between since joining Hertha on loan in August. 

So far, the Amsterdam-born has made only four Bundesliga appearances involving two starts at Olympiastadion.

Born to Ghanaian parents, the centre-back remains eligible to play for Ghana at senior level as he is yet to earn a competitive senior cap with Oranje.
