With Kenya leading 1-0 in the post-match penalties, after Zanzibar had missed her two first spot kicks and Jockins Atudo converting for Kenya, Duncan Otieno stepped in for the second shot for the host.
However against the odds, the goalkeeper managed to keep out the midfielder's tame effort, giving his team a lifeline, but Kenya eventually won 3-2.
The AFC Leopards man has explained what transpired from the penalty spot.
"I had calculated my move well and was aiming at doubling our advantage, but when i took the shot, I slipped and unfortunately missed the mark.
"It was not a good experience, it definitely did hurt me, but I am happy we won eventually.
"This has been a good outing for us as a country and we definitely hope to continue doing well. It was teamwork that won it for us, as well as the fans who turned out to support us."
Otieno is expected to lead Leopards in their continental assignment next season.
