Gyan scores but Kayserispor crash out of Turkish Cup

Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan was on the scoresheet in Kayserispor’s 2-2 home stalemate with Akhisarspor in the Turkish Cup on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old converted from the spot to restore parity in the quarter-final fixture at Kadir Has Stadium.

However, his goal could not save the Anatolian Star from exiting the competition as Akhisarspor ultimately came out 3-2 winners on aggregate.

The goal is Gyan’s fourth in all competitions for Kayserispor, and third in the Turkish Cup, since completing a two-year move to the side last summer.

On the day, the away side were first to find the back of the net through Soner Aydogdu in the 25th minute, before Artem Kravets drew level for Kayserispor nine minutes later.

Eray Ataseven then put Akhisarspor back up with a strike in the 69th minute.

The visitors looked headed for a famous away win, until Gyan, who was a 63rd minute substitute for Gonzalo Espinoza, converted a spot kick in the second minute of stoppage time.

The Ghana captain has, in all competitions, made just 11 appearances for Kayserispor so far due to a series of injury setbacks.
