GPL week two wrap: Hearts, Kotoko drop points

Frank Nuttall's reign as coach of Hearts of Oak could not get off to a winning start as envisaged, following a scoreless stalemate with Medeama in week two of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

After matchday one's draw with Inter Allies, the Phobians handed the Scotsman a two-year deal on Thursday, with hopes that he steers the Accra-based outfit to a first win of the new season on Sunday.

His ambitions were, however, thwarted by Medeama, who held their own to snatch a point at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Elsewhere, rivals Asante Kotoko could not make it two wins in a row after a goalless draw against Berekum Chelsea away at the Golden City Park. The Porcupine Warriors sit second on the log.

Aduana Stars, unlike Kotoko, picked maximum points for the second game running with a 1-0 away victory over new boys Elmina Sharks. Godfred Saka scored the decisive goal, which sent the Dormaa-based club to top of the table.

Gideon Waja and Komlan Agbegniadan were the heros of the day as Wafa recorded a 2-0 home triumph over Ebusua Dwarfs at the Sogakope Park.

At the Cal Reindorf Park in Dansoman, Liberty Professionals netted two late goals to pick a 2-0 home win over Inter Allies. Bernard Arthur and Gerald Arkson scored in the 82nd and 84th minutes respectively.

Unarguably, Hans Kwoffie is the star of matchday two following a hat-trick, which handed Ashanti Gold a 3-1 triumph over Accra Great Olympics in the only game on Saturday. Abel Manomey got the away side's consolation at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi.

Defending champions Wa All Stars and FA Cup winners Bechem United were, however, not involved this weekend due to continental club assignments.
