Ghana urged to bid for Chan 2018

Former Asante Kotoko manager Isaac Opeele Boateng has advised the government of Ghana to bid for the hosting of the 2018 African Nations Championship after Kenya was stripped of the right following a meeting of Caf Executive Committee held in Accra on Saturday.

Kenya lost the nod due to lack of infrastructure and political instability in the country after post-election protests.

"I want to use this opportunity to appeal to the president of Ghana and youth and sport minister to bid for the Chan 2018 tournament," Opeele was quoted as saying by Ghanaweb.

"The government should help us host the tournament for the players to exhibit their talent. Look at the way the whole country is happy [after winning the Wafu Cup of Nations on Sunday]. Let us host it and win again and keep the country going.

"There will be money. The country will get foreign exchange. Hosting will help a lot. There will be sales at the stadium to help business. Apart from the players, hosting the competition will help the economy," he added.

Ghana missed the opportunity to qualify to the tournament last month, after losing 4-3 on aggregate to Burkina Faso but they successfully hosted the 2017 Wafu Cup and won the title after defeating Nigeria 4-1 in the final.
