The country's former football chief wants the Ghana Premier League season to be put on hold

Former Ghana Football Association president Dr. Nyaho-Nyaho Tamakloe wants the ongoing domestic league to be suspended until further notice in the wake of corruption allegations facing the body’s top officials.

Following the premiering on June 6 of a documentary titled '#Number12' produced by undercover journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, several Fifa referees and their assistants, as well as the football association's executive committee members were filmed while accepting bribes to manipulate scorelines of games including the biggest game of the season involving Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.

“The Ghana Premier League must be suspended for now [despite completing the first round after 15 matchdays]. It should be totally suspended because it's full of corruption and all the referees who were caught on tape while accepting bribes to influence results must be fired immediately,” Tamakloe told Joy FM.

“Those who were caught on camera should have nothing to do with our football again. They should not even be in charge of games that will involve toddlers. The system must be cleaned first before we even think of continuing the season,” he added.

Fifa council member Kwesi Nyantakyi was also captured receiving a sum of $65,000 to influence government in setting up an oil company with businessmen from Middle East. He says he did nothing wrong and has been cooperating with the police who are investigating the claims.
