Ghana striker Raphael Dwamena has insisted that the Black Stars stand a realistic chance of winning the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after failing to qualify for the 2018 Fifa World Cup.

The four-time African champions are currently in a rebuilding process under coach Kwesi Appiah, following injuries and aging players.

Captain Asamoah Gyan, Ayew brothers, John Boye, Agyemang Badu, Mubarak Wakaso and goalkeeper Gordon Razak Brimah have not been part of the team in the last three games played.

“Whenever we meet, we just have to be as a team regardless of the fact that we don’t stay together for long,” Dwamena told

“I can see the unity and love in the team and the youthfulness of the players. And we are also adapting to the style of the coach.

“If we stay as a team, I believe we can win the Afcon trophy in 2019. We only need to stay strong as a team and as a nation and it will be possible we can win it,” he added.

Ghana last lifted the Afcon trophy in 1982 and have reached the final three times since then – in 1992, 2010 and 2015.
