Despite a four-game winless run, the 67-year-old is confident that Gernot Rohr’s men can impress at the global tournament

Unfazed by Nigeria's unimpressive run of results in friendlies, Christian Chukwu has backed the national team to shine at the 2018 Fifa World Cup.

Gernot Rohr’s men lost to England and Czech Republic, having previously succumbed to Serbia and shared the spoils with Congo DR.

On June 16, the three-time African champions open their Group D campaign with a tie against Croatia at Kaliningrad Stadium before they clash with Iceland and Argentina.

And the former Super Eagles handler is confident that the results of the warm-up games will not have any negative impact on the team in Russia.

“Friendly games does not really matter. What is important is their performance during the tournament,” Chukwu told Goal.

“Winning friendly matches will only boost the team’s morale that’s all. So I think the preparation is in order.

“It is serving its purpose. I think they will do their best at the World Cup.”

The Super Eagles' best outings at the global showpiece were in 1994 and 2014 editions where they reached the round of 16, which they are hoping to surpass at this term.t
