Eguma: Rivers United 'showed character' in Kano Pillars away draw

Following their Sunday's away draw against Sai Masu Gida Boys, the Pride of Rivers gaffer has lauded his side's fighting spirit

Rivers United head coach Stanley Eguma believes his side 'showed character' following their 1-1 draw against Kano Pillars at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

Following their 0-0 draw with Sunshine Stars, the Pride of Rivers were desperate to recover from the slip up when they come up against the Sai Masu Gida Boys.

Chikere Osita gave the 10-man visitors' quest a crucial lead after firing them in front in the 12th minute before Junior Lokosa's second-half effort rescued the hosts from defeat.

And the gaffer has revealed what inspired his side's impressive display against Ibrahim Musa's men, though, he feels they deserved to win.

“It was a good result but we had planned for a something better than that," Eguma told media.

"After dropping points at home to Sunshine Stars, we resolved to come to Kano to get the maximum points despite whatever we were going to meet there.

"Because losing points at home mean we have to go back to fight away. We came here and got a point which was good and I commend the effort of my players.

"I think the performance of my boys did not reflect the scoreline. We should have gotten a victory despite the red card that was given to us. We showed character and I give kudos to the boys."

Rivers United are ninth in the league standings with 34 points from 24 matches this season.
