De Bruyne, Kante and Modric named to FIFA 18's Team of the Year

N'Golo Kante, Luka Modric and Kevin De Bruyne were named the midfielders in the FIFA 18 Team of the Year, the popular video game announced Tuesday.

The trio was selected out of a group of 15 nominees, including Paulo Dybala, Arjen Robben, Marco Verratti and Andres Iniesta.

Based on their real-life performances throughout 2017, a total list of 55 nominees is being whittled down to a full XI based on votes from athletes, media and members of the EA Sports FIFA community.

EA Sports sent a ballot box to eligible voters, who picked their team in a 4-3-3 formation and submitted their choices by sharing a picture of the selection on social media with the hashtag #TOTYVote.

Kante gets the nod after leading Chelsea to the Premier League title last season, while Modric played a major role in helping Real Madrid win both La Liga and the Champions League in 2017.

De Bruyne could possibly follow in their championship footsteps as he guided Manchester City straight to the top of the Premier League table during the start of the 2017-18 campaign.

The midfielders were second to be named in a FIFA Ultimate Team pack, with the attackers being announced Monday. Harry Kane, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were voted in, while PSG star Neymar was surprisingly left off the team.

Goalkeepers and defenders will be released on Friday. All players will be available in packs on Saturday and Sunday.
