The Blues boss confirmed that he will rest two of his stars this weekend as he prepares to face lower league opposition in the FA Cup

Antonio Conte has confirmed that David Luiz and Marcos Alonso will be rested for their side's trip to the Midlands on Saturday to face Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup

RUMOURS: Solanke to Liverpool?

However, the Chelsea manager also said that he will put out a strong line up as there is less need to rest players due to the club's failure to qualify for European competitions last season.

Luiz has been playing with a bandaged right knee ever since Sergio Aguero's red card tackle in December, but, despite an improvement, Conte confirmed that he is resting his key defender due to niggling problems that have remained after the challenge.

"All the players are available but there are situations which are better to keep under control. Marcos Alonso needs a bit of rest, and with David Luiz we have an opportunity to give him a full week to recover well.

"His knee is okay, it’s improved a lot since the game at Man City, it’s important to keep the situation under control. He’s doing training sessions with the physical coach."

Conte has been consistent in his team selection since taking over as Chelsea manager and has had very few injuries to worry about, but John Terry, who is playing a lesser role in the team this season, is set to return at the weekend following a minor injury in training.

"Yes, John Terry is fit for this game, he’s okay," he added at Cobham Training Centre before talking more about his options for the Wolves game. "When you have this type of game, at this moment, it’s very important to find the right balance.

"It could be a good opportunity to see some players who haven’t been playing a lot. It’s important to find the right balance and make the right choice. I don’t want my players to stop for 14 days and then restart, which could be very dangerous. This competition is very important for us so we must reach the next round."

Conte recalled Charly Musonda from his loan deal with Real Betis at the end of December and has been training with the first team since his return. Musonda isn't going to make his Chelsea debut against Wolves at the weekend but Conte reiterated his high hopes for the 20-year-old.

"Charly Musonda is not in the squad, he’s working very hard and very well in training and he’s having supplementary work with the physical coach, tomorrow he will play with the Under-23s against Man City.

"Now I think it’s better for him to play a whole game and stay with us. In the next games if he deserves to come with us I’m open to that eventuality. The Academy is doing a really great job.

Wenger: I will not retire this year

"In my squad we have a lot of young players from the Academy - Chalobah, Ake, Ruben, Aina - and it’s important to have a link between the first team and Academy.

"These young players have stayed with me because they deserve it, not because I want to give them a gift. In the future I hope to absorb many players from the Academy."
