Final whistle!

Vincent Kompany Manchester City Liverpool

That's all, folks.

Salah injury 🤕

It wasn't all good for Liverpool, though!

The Reds have suffered a potentially massive injury blow, with Mohamed Salah limping out of the game in the second half.

But how bad is the injury? Here's all we know so far...

Advantage Liverpool! 💪

It's advantage Liverpool after the first leg and they deserve their win after a superb performance in front of their own fans.

Their first-half display will take some beating this season and they will be fired up ahead of the second leg.

City need to regroup but they may be the only side in England that could claw back a three-nil scorline at the moment.

They will need Aguero back fit and raring to go but having home advantage will be huge for them.

Post-match thoughts 💭

Barca were comfortable winners this evening.

However, it didn't all go the way of Ernesto Valverde's side and they had to struggle to find an opening, benefitting from own goals from Daniele De Rossi and Kostas Manolas.

Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez also capitalised on easy chances, either side of Edin Dzeko's slotted finish for the visitors.

Barcelona were far from their best today but they got their win in the end and now have one foot firmly placed in the semi-finals of the Champions League yet again.

There's plenty to work on ahead of the second-leg next week but a 4-1 advantage puts them in complete control.

Roma impressed overall but the stuffing was knocked out of them by the two own goals that gave Barcelona their edge.

Lacklustre defending was their downfall in the end, particularly with Luis Suarez's late effort, and it's a massive learning curve for Eusebio Di Francesco's side.

Well, there we have it.

Liverpool hold on to a 3-0 lead ahead of the second leg despite City's attempts to break them down in the second half, while Barcelona turned on the charm and beat Roma 4-1 at Camp Nou.

Liverpool 3-0 Man City

Barcelona 4-1 Roma

90 mins - Goodnight, Roma

Remember that glimmer of hope Roma had? It's gone again. 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico against this Barcelona side seems impossible.

A tough lesson for the Italians tonight.

Seconds left to play now.

87 mins - GOAL!!! ⚽

Lionel Messi Barcelona Roma

Okay, Barca, we get it - you can turn it on when you want to...

It's another scrappy goal but Suarez finally nets his first Champions League goal of the season.

Denis Suarez's ball into the middle isn't dealt with and it falls kindly for the Uruguayan, who strikes home.

Barcelona 4-1 Roma

84 mins - Tick tock ⏲️

City are running out of time to find a goal but they have proven on so many occasions how dangerous they can be in the final stages of the game!

80 mins - GOAL!!! ⚽

A lifeline for Roma!

Perotti again brilliant as he plays the ball into the middle, where Dzeko takes one touch before slotting past Ter Stegen.

This time the German had no response.

Barcelona 3-1 Roma

75 mins - WHAT A SAVE!

Ter Stegen loses the ball, it's lofted into the middle for Defrel and he looks destined to score with his first touch of the game.

However, the German keeper superbly redeems himself with a diving save.

Note that the Barca game is a little ahead of the other tie!

66 mins - Press 🖐️ press 🖐️ press 🖐️

City are in control now, with Livepool out of puff from that first half.

Sane wastes a good chance for the visitors after shaping to shoot before passing the ball straight to Karius.

The Reds are struggling with the ball at their feet and City may make another sub to ensure they get their goal.

Still 3-0, though.

63 mins - Too much to do, too little time? ⏰

Roma really have had the stuffing knocked out of them, which isn't too surprising.

The danger is that it could get worse as there's still plenty of time to play.

59 mins - Can City grab an away goal?

Meanwhile at Anfield, City have changed their formation slightly and as a result Liverpool are sitting slightly deeper.

The loss of Salah, who was replaced by Wijnaldum a few minutes ago, is huge and City have a great opportunity to get themselves a goal.

Raheem Sterling was also brought into play, much to the displeasure of the Liverpool fans.

59 mins - GOAL!!! ⚽

Game over!

Messi fantastically switches the play to Suarez, who cuts onto his right inside the box but sees his shot saved by Alisson.

It fell on a plate to Pique though, who tucked home with ease.

Barcelona 3-0 Roma

Barca in the semis?

Roma need a miracle now 🙏

An away goal would give them a chance of turning the tie around in the second-leg but you have to feel that Barcelona now have one foot firmly in the semi-final draw, despite the fact we still have two hours of football to play in the tie.

That Perotti chance in the opening minute of the second half now looks even more crucial, he'll certainly have a sleepness night tonight thinking about what might have been.

How's yer luck?

Barcelona top-scorers in the Champions League this season are as followed:

6 - Lionel Messi

5 - Own goals

Sign him up!

55 mins - GOAL!!! ⚽

Another own goal!

Rakitic and Messi work a short corner routinely brilliantly, with the former driving a ball across the six yard box. Umtiti hits the post and the rebound is sent into his own net by Manolas.

Harsh on the visitors...

Barcelona 2-0 Roma

53 mins - Save, 'keeper! ✋

Messi wiggles into space and shifts onto his weaker right foot, firing a shot straight at Alisson.

You sense that it's only a matter of time before we see another goal here!

50 mins - POST!

Roma almost gifted a goal!

Umtiti doesn't deal with the ball and Florenzi nicks it off him, cutting a cross onto the post from a very tight angle.

However, it had just gone out of play. Certainly encouraging signs for the visitors though.

We go again!

Both games are back underway, and Roma are straight on the attack.

The ball is whipped into the far post from Florenzi, where Perotti has room but he heads wide of the mark. Then, from the left flank, Kolarov floats a dangerous cross towards the back post but it escapes his team-mates.

Barcelona have been poor, it has to be said, and haven't really found their stride this evening.

Ernesto Valverde will want to see a lot more from his side after the interval but they do hold the lead, which could be crucial over the course of two legs.

Roma deserve credit, though, for a superb tactical set-up that has left their hosts scrapping for chances.

The goal was a freak moment and may prove to be a bitter blow for the Italians, although they'll still fancy their chances of they keep the deficit at just a single goal.

As for at Anfield...

Guardiola has his work cut out because he knows his team need a goal to take into the second leg.

The problem is Jesus has done nothing and Liverpool look like they could score more.

Stay with us for more action!

It's the two home sides who go into the break with a lead, with Liverpool stealing the show so far.

Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane have all scored for the Reds in what has been an impressive first 45 minutes.

Barca, however, have relied on a fluke Daniele De Rossi own goal to take the lead against Roma.

Let's hope there's more to come in the second half of both ties!

Liverpool 3-0 Man City

Barcelona 1-0 Roma

43 mins - Unlucky Roma

It felt like a goal was coming but that's an extremely cruel way for Barcelona to take the lead, a complete fluke and hopefully not one that takes the sail out of Roma's sails.

It's the fourth own goal Barcelona have benefitted from this season, the highest amount since 2002/03.

38 mins - GOAL!!! ⚽

De Rossi scores the opener at Camp Nou... Unfortunately for Roma it was in his own net!

Barca take the lead despite chasing most of the game.

Barcelona 1-0 Roma

35 mins - Wake up, Barca! 😴

Barcelona are still half asleep and Ernesto Valverde won't be happy at all. All it takes is one moment of magic, though, as it feels like the game could open up at any moment.

Credit where it's due for Roma, however, who have done fantastically to quell Barcelona's stellar attack this evening.

The hosts aren't getting any room to breathe and Messi is being swarmed by defenders when he picks up the ball.

Liverpool make history

Mohamed Salah Liverpool

Liverpool have now scored 31 Champions League goals this season - beating their previous record of 29 in the 2007-08 campaign! History.

31 - GOAL!!! ⚽

Liverpool score AGAIN...

Sadio Mane gets on the end of a Salah cross and nods in the home side's third goal of the game.

An absolute shambles from City so far, but Liverpool have been excellent.

Liverpool 3-0 City

28 mins - Chance for Barca

Barcelona with a slick, smooth move to find an opening.

Messi flicks the ball behind to Suarez, who drives across goal towards the far post but is prevented by a fine save from Alisson.

The game is hotting up a little bit now.

22 mins - Messi magic 🔥

Taking the ball off Messi is an impossible task.

He keeps going, trying to work his way into the box, and is eventually tackled. It falls to Rakitic though, who fires an effort off a defender and behind for a corner.

Unfortunately for him, it comes to nothing.

20 mins - WHAT A ROCKET ⚽

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain gives Liverpool a 2-0 lead with an absolute screamer!

His fifth goal of the season - he also scored against City when the Reds beat them at Anfield earlier in the season.

Liverpool 2-0 City

18 mins - OFF THE POST!

Something from nothing for Barcelona!

A corner bounces around and isn't dealt with, falling for Rakitic and he drives a low ball across the face of goal. It doesn't find a touch from an attacker but almost doesn't need it, rebounding off the far post.

12 mins - SAVE

Alisson called into action for the first time this evening, as Messi shifts the ball onto his left and strikes from distance.

A fierce effort but straight at the Brazilian, who gobbles up the ball at the second time of asking.

Play continues.

12 mins - GOAL!!! ⚽

Who else?

Alexander-Arnold releases Salah who sets up Firmino but the Brazilian sees his shot saved. However, Walker failed to clear the rebound and Salah pounced to smash it home!

Liverpool 1-0 City

Any concerns that Roma would sit back to soak up pressure and focus on defending are out the window already, as the visitors are showing plenty of intent.

They've put Barcelona under a lot of pressure when they don't have the ball and are trying to work into space when they do take possession.

3 mins - Barca on the back foot?

Not the best of starts from Barcelona, encouraging Roma to push forward, but it's yet to fall for the Italians in an attacking aspect.

The hosts are pinging the ball around as we've all come to expect now though.

1 min - And we're off!

Both ties are underway - GAME ON

Liverpool fans Anfield

Kick off is almost upon us.

Grab a drink, settle in, and wait for that Champions League tune.

Van Dijk out to prove a point!

When Liverpool agreed to make Virgil van Dijk the most expensive defender in football history, it was with nights like this in mind...

Now he has the chance to prove Manchester City, who also wanted to sign the defender, that he made the right decision to snub them in favour of a switch to Anfield.
