The 28-year-old ex-Amatsantsantsa A Pitori defender wants a move to the top tier as he awaits his clearance from Cape Umoya United

Formerly known as Platinum Stars, Cape Umoya United defender Luvolwethu Mpeta says he wants to return to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) as he awaits his clearance from the National First Division (NFD) outfit.

The former SuperSport United left back has told Goal that he is currently training with the Stellenbosch-based side and will head to Gauteng after getting his clearance as he eyes a move to the top tier.

“I have always wanted to leave and join a team of my choice, but they have refused to give me my clearance,” Mpeta told Goal.

“We have now agreed on terms to release me on the contract and I am now waiting to receive my clearance,” said the defender.

“I may be going to Gauteng today (Saturday) or Sunday and join any team in the PSL, I am officially free to join any PSL club, but I'm just waiting to receive my clearance,” he continued.

“We have signed everything and it's just a matter of getting the papers, but will continue to train with them until I get the papers,” revealed the former SuperSport defender.

“I can play for any team in the PSL, I do not have any preferences as long as I will play regular football because I still have ambitions as a football player,” he concluded.

The 28-year-old was part of Stars team's team last season, but failed to rescue their PSL status and were eventually relegated to the NFD.

In addition, the former Telkom Knockout Cup and MTN8 champions were sold to a Cape Town-based consortium led by coach Roger De Sa.

Following the club sale, they later changed the name of the club to Cape Umoya United and are now based in Stellenbosch whilst the defender is yet to make an appearance for the side in the lower division.

They have opened their 2018/19 NFD campaign with draws against TS Galaxy FC and Ajax Cape Town, but will face Maccabi FC on Saturday afternoon at Dobsonville Stadium.
