CAF approves Enyimba Stadium for Caf Confederation Cup tie

Enyimba have got their wish granted and will host CARA Brazzaville of Congo on Wednesday in a Caf Confederation Cup Group C tie at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba after CAF approved the choice of the venue.

The People’s Elephant last hosted a match at the refurbished stadium on November 5, 2015, in an NPFL clash against Warri Wolves and have wandered through Calabar UJ Esuene Stadium, Adokie Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt and Umuahia Township Stadium in their search for an alternative home ground before the latest development.

Enyimba sent an application to CAF asking for them to be granted access to play the rest of their Caf Confederation Cup matches at their home-turf and Africa’s football ruling body sent an inspection team last Thursday to look at the stadium’s facilities and ascertain its readiness.

News filtered in from CAF on Sunday night that Enyimba International Stadium, Aba has been given the nod to host one of the Group C deciding fixtures at the edifice and also the rest of their campaign in the second tier club competition.

A member of the media team of Enyimba, Farriel Allaputa confirmed this development and he stressed that they are looking forward to hosting CARA on Wednesday with the three points in their minds.

“We have been given the approval to host the Caf Confederation Cup tie in Aba. We are happy with this information and are ready to be a worthy host,” Allaputa told Goal.

“We have worked very hard for this and are hoping for a comfortable win against CARA. We know there are no easy games and that they defeated us 3-0 in the first leg they will think that they will have it easy once again.”

Enyimba are second in Group C with nine points from five games and they will qualify to the quarter-final as group winners if they defeat current group leaders, CARA at home.
