Robert Matano has sued AFC Leopards for wrongful dismissal, Goal can reveal.

Matano was sacked two weeks ago with his position taken by Dennis Kitambi on interim basis. Matano through Kiplagat and Advocate Company has demanded the club to pay him Sh4.9million as compensation for unfair dismisal.

A demand letter obtained by Goal addressed to Ingwe officials stated, “We are therefore, instructed to demand, which we hereby do, that you pay our client Robert Matano the following; notice in lieu of termination Sh700, 000, pending winning allowances Sh63, 000 and compensation for unfair dismissal Sh350, 000 x 12 (Sh4.2m) (total Sh4.9million) within the next 7 days of receipt of this demand.

“Take notice that should you fail to do as instructed herein above, we have firm instructions to proceed and institute appropriate suit against you to your own detriment as to cost and consequences.”

The lawyer for Matano argued that the coach was dismissed without any reason for termination. “We are informed by our client that he received a letter dated March 13, 2018, from Mr. Oscar Igaida (secretary general), without any reason for termination contrary to section 43 (1) of the Employment Act, 2017.”

Matano was sacked by Ingwe on what the club termed as ‘indiscipline, lack of respect and failure to adhere to teamwork’ after having initially suspended him for two weeks.

Matano joined The Den in July last year when the club was performing below expectations but he helped them avoid relegation and win GOtv Shield title.
