WATCH: Brazil loss can inspire Socceroos - Postecoglou

Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou insisted he got plenty out of Tuesday night's 4-0 friendly loss to Brazil as he prepares for Australia's first group game at the Confederations Cup against Germany.

Australia fly to Russia on Wednesday with Germany their first opponent early next week before they face Cameroon and Chile in Group B.

The Socceroos started in the worst possible fashion at the MCG with Diego Souza pouncing on an error from Bailey Wright to score after 12 seconds but Australia showed some promise for the rest of the first half as they remained 1-0 down at the break.

Goals to Thiago Silva, Taison and Souza in the second half rounded out a comfortable win for the Selecao but Postecoglou argued it wasn't all negative at his post-match press conference.

"You never like getting defeated and you don't like a heavy defeat, particularly at home," he told reporters.

"So that has always has an effect but it doesn't have to be a negative effect though. From our perspective it's about now preparing for that game in a week's time.

"We get on a plane tomorrow and it will be good to get over there and start knuckling down in our preparation for that game. We'll be ready for that.

"Tonight we had some objectives to get out of the game. For the most part we achieved them but we failed to deliver in others."

With eight players coming into Australia's starting XI compared to last week's World Cup qualifying triumph over Saudi Arabia, plus six substitutes in the second half, Postecoglou claimed those changes led to a disjointed performance from the Socceroos during periods against Brazil.

The 51-year-old claimed he learned a lot from the match against the world's number one international side.

"We did need to get some game time into some players and that was important tonight," he said.

"For guys like Bailey Wright and [James] Troisi and others in the team, who haven't played 90 minutes in a very long time, it was good to get them out there and they'll be better for that."
