Blow for Liverpool as Sadio Mane suffers hand injury in Senegal training

The 26-year-old becomes the latest player in Jurgen Klopp’s team to suffer an injury while on international duty

Liverpool might be worried about Sadio Mane’s fitness after the forward broke his left thumb on Monday.

The pacy attacker was taken to the hospital after damaging his hand during Senegal’s preparation for the return fixture of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan.

Mane played a crucial part in the Teranga Lions’ 3-0 defeat of Sudan on Saturday but he is expected to miss Tuesday’s return leg in Khartoum as a precautionary step.

The former Southampton player joins Mohamed Salah [muscle injury] and Virgil van Dijk [rib issue] on the Reds’ injury list ahead of Saturday’s Premier League meeting against Huddersfield Town.

So far, the 26-year-old has been a key part of the Reds' season with four goals in 11 appearances this season.
