Having undergone medical tests, the forward has been cleared of suffering any long-lasting thigh problem during a clash with Atletico

Real Madrid star Gareth Bale did not suffer any serious damage to his thigh during a La Liga clash with Atletico Madrid, Goal understands.

The Wales international forward was forced off during a derby date at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday but medical tests have left him in the clear.

He lasted just 45 minutes of that contest, with Julen Lopetegui forced into a change at the interval.

Los Blancos' boss told reporters afterwards that he had taken that decision as a precaution.

Bale had reported discomfort in his leg and Real opted to take no risks.

The 29-year-old has endured a number of fitness problems during his time in Spain, so he has to be managed carefully.

Those in Madrid are doing just that, with Bale having been sent for scans on his latest knock.

No major issues have been uncovered and Lopetegui expects to have the former Tottenham star back at his disposal this weekend.

That means Bale will sit out a Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow on Tuesday.

He is expected to return to training on Thursday, allowing him to stake a claim for a starting role against Alaves on Saturday.

Real need Bale to return to the fold as quickly as possible because his early season form has helped to cover the loss of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Filling those boots will be an impossible task, but goals and creativity are required from somewhere.

Bale has contributed four goals and two assists so far, although he has been powerless to prevent Real from dropping five points in their last two La Liga fixtures against Sevilla and Atletico.
