Aubameyang insists 'my best is to come' after north London derby double

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang insists he has not yet hit his best form at Arsenal after his derby double helped sink Tottenham.

The Gabon international netted the first goal of a classic north London derby from the penalty spot, giving the Gunners a 1-0 lead.

Goals from Eric Dier and Harry Kane seemed to point to a Spurs comeback, but Aubameyang then scored a brilliant equaliser at the start of the second half.

Substitute Alexandre Lacazette and Lucas Torreira then earned Unai Emery's side all three points in a frenzied Emirates atmosphere to secure a 4-2 triumph.

But, despite his heroics, Aubameyang says he has yet to peak in north London, having only moved to the club from Borussia Dortmund in January.

"Not bad, eh?” he said, when asked about his double.

“I think I am not at 100 per cent but it’s coming. It’s coming and I felt very good on the pitch. I’m really happy because my best form is coming.

“The team helped me to settle in good. It’s gone well. We are working to play matches but I am really happy here. It’s going well.”

Aubameyang has scored 10 goals in 14 Premier League games so far this season, and also netted braces against Fulham and Leicester.

Emery has, nevertheless, routinely deployed the forward in a left-wing position, but Aubameyang insists he does the most damage from a central role.

“I think everybody knows it - I like to play up front,” he added.

“But I know that I can help the team. Sometimes the coach puts me on the left side but as I said it [centre forward] is my favourite position.

“We knew that if we won this game we would be in the top four. It’s great now.

"We have to look forward because we have an important game on Wednesday [against Manchester United]. We know that it’s tough to stay in the top four.”

Aubameyang has scored a total of 22 goals in 32 Arsenal games, and the Gunners will visit Manchester United in midweek, before welcoming Huddersfield Town to the Emirates next weekend.
