Our good friends at Opta have complied all the numbers and stats you need to assess the teams’ chances ahead of today’s Afcon first Quater-Fina clash at Stade d'Angodnje.


-   This will be the second time that Burkina Faso and Tunisia have faced off in the African Cup of Nations, the previous encounter was also a quarter-final; Burkina Faso progressed after winning the penalty shootout (8-7) in the 1998 tournament (hosted in Burkina Faso).

-   Burkina Faso are unbeaten in their last three meetings with Tunisia (W1 D2) although the overall record stands at one victory apiece and three drawn fixtures.

-   Burkina Faso have made it to the knockout stages of the AFCON for only the third time in 11 attempts (1998, 2013).

-   Tunisia have reached the quarter-final stage for the third time in four attempts in the African Cup of Nations; they failed to progress in those matches in 2012 and 2015 however.

-   Burkina Faso come into this match having gone unbeaten in all three group games (W1 D2) for the second time in three editions of the African Cup of Nations (also 2013, W1, D2).

-   Tunisia have failed to progress from their last four knockout matches in the AFCON; losing three and going out on penalties in 2006 against Nigeria.

-   Burkina Faso are making their third appearance in a quarter-final final in the African Cup of Nations; the Stallions progressed to the next round in both of the previous matches at this stage of the tournament (via penalties in 1998 and after extra time in 2013).

-   Tunisia have managed to record just one clean sheet in their last 15 AFCON matches whilst Burkina Faso have scored at least once in their last four matches in the African Cup of Nations.

-   The last four knockout games involving Tunisia in the AFCON have gone to extra time (once to penalties) whilst the same has occurred in three of Burkina Faso’s last four (twice to penalties).
