Football and rumours go hand in hand and we've got you covered with all the news and whispers swirling around this week in Australia

Leroy George turns down four A-League offers

After an eye-catching first season in Australia with Melbourne Victory, Dutch winger Leroy George is set to leave the A-League with a number of clubs unable to meet his wage demands.

The Australian's Ray Gatt is reporting that Victory, Melbourne City, Newcastle Jets and Western Sydney Wanderers were all unable to offer a satisfactory financial deal to George.

It now appears the 31-year-old will be heading to Japan with his agent Eddy Bosnar confirming that Asia will likely be George's next destination despite his desire to stay in Australia.

"It is a shame because he would like to stay in the A-League," Bosnar told  The Australian.

"There is definite interest from Japan and it looks 99 percent sure that he will go there."

Daniel Adlung departs Adelaide United

Yet another quality foreigner is leaving the A-League, with German Daniel Adlung following Johan Absalonsen out the door at Adelaide United.

The midfielder was on a two-year deal with the Reds but wanted to return home according to the Adelaide Advertiser.

Adlung scored five goals across 26 appearances for United and is hoping to link back up with former club 1860 Munich.

There could be more bad news for Adelaide with the Advertiser also reporting striker Baba Diawara is seeking a release from his contract.

Perth Glory linked to Ivan Franjic

Former Socceroos defender could be set to link up with Tony Popovic at Perth Glory with social media hinting a move west could be on the cards for the right back.

Franjic was released by Brisbane Roar this week after returning to the A-League this season under John Aloisi.

The 30-year-old scored two goals across 16 appearances as Brisbane scraped into the top six only to fall in the finals to City - a side Franjic also spent two seasons with.

Melbourne Victory re-sign championship trio

Kevin Muscat has looked to lock down the core of his championship winning A-League side, successfully re-signing star keeper Lawrence Thomas along with veterans Carl Valeri and Leigh Broxham.

Thomas was awarded the Joe Marston Medal for an outstanding performance in the A-League grand final this season and has subsequently picked himself up a new two-year deal.

Meanwhile, Valeri and Broxham, both of whom are nearing the end of their professional football careers, have been tempted to play on for one more season with Muscat stressing the importance of the trio.

"In Carl, Leigh and Lawrence we have somewhere near 500 games of experience, so it was important to keep them at the club," Muscat said via a club statement.
"All three contributed heavily to our success last season and with the added demands of another Champions League campaign ahead of us, they'll no doubt prove invaluable through both competitions again."
