Zenit St. Petersburg defender Fernando Meira is poised to sign for Real Zaragoza, the Spanish club has announced.
The Portugal defender has landed in Zaragoza and will finalize a switch to the club in the next few days subject to the completion of formal procedures and the player passing a medical.
Meira, 33, signed for Zenit in the summer of 2009 in a deal worth 4.5 million euros, but the arrival of compatriot Bruno Alves last year pushed him down the Russian club's pecking order.
Last week, Zenit coach Luciano Spalletti revealed Meira would not stay in the team as he needed playing time.
The transfer fee has not been revealed by either club, but it is believed the defender will join Zaragoza on a free transfer, as the Spanish outfit have debts reportedly amounting to 110 million euros.
