Newcastle United Promoted Back To The Premier League

Magpies back in top flight after just one season away.
Newcastle United have been promoted back to the Premier League after just one season in the Championship.

Rivals Nottingham Forest could only manage a goalless draw at home to Cardiff City this afternoon, meaning that the Magpies will definitely be playing their football in the top flight next season.

Forest needed to win to stand any chance of catching the North-East side, but they failed to find the net against fellow promotion candidates Cardiff.

Newcastle face Sheffield United at St James' Park on Monday night in front of what will be a party atmosphere, knowing that they have already secured promotion to the Premier League.

Manager Chris Hughton has stated however, that he will not be happy until his side has clinched the Championship title.

Second-placed West Bromwich Albion could only scrape a 1-1 draw with struggling Watford earlier in the day, meaning that Newcastle enter tonight's match three points clear at the top with two games in hand.
