Player Ratings: Spain 0-2 United States

SPAIN

Casillas 5.5 - Went down too early for the first goal when he probably should have done better, couldn't do anything about the second and aside from that, didn't have much else to do.

Ramos 5.5 - Great display of attacking football down the right but unfortunately he will be remembered most for his idle touch on the ball in the six-yard box that allowed Dempsey to pounce for the second goal.

Puyol 6.0 - Caught out a couple of times by the movement of the American forwards and was lucky that one or two offside decisions went his way.

Pique 6.0 - Did a decent job in defence but like his partner did get saved by the linesman's flag on a few occasions.

Capdevila 5.0 - Turned far too easily by Altidore for the goal as he should have stood up to him and caught out of position more than once.

Fabregas 6.0 - Out fought in the midfield and even though he made a couple of decent passes, none of them changed the game.

Xavi 6.0 - Not given time and space to play and unbelievably he looked rushed at times in the centre of the pitch.

Alonso 5.5 - Saw a lot of the ball in midfield but didn't create much and will probably be disappointed with his display.

Riera 5.5 - Some poor touches out on the wing mixed with some promising runs made for a frustrating evening.

Torres 6.0 - Showed some great skill towards the end of the first-half to fashion a chance for himself but didn't get that many chances throughout and looked frustrated.

Villa 5.5 - Spurned some good chances in the opening forty-five minutes and again after the break. Didn't look at his best this evening by any means.

SUBS

Cazorla 5.5 - Didn't add to the team at all and lost the ball cheaply once or twice.

Mata 6.0 - Saw the ball a lot out on the left but none of his crosses produced any good chances.

UNITED STATES

Howard 8.0 - Good save on Torres with his feet near the end of the first half and after the break he was even busier, making some great stops to deny most of the Spanish front line.

Spector 7.0 - Got caught out of position a couple of times but always seemed to atone for his mistakes and battled hard.

DeMerit  8.0 - Outstanding at the centre of defence as he flew into blocks, made great tackles and kept both Torres and Villa in check.

Onyewu 8.0 - Like his partner at the back, 'Gooch' was brilliant and dominated both in the air and on the ground throughout.

Bocanegra 5.5 - Playing at left-back, Bocanegra was beaten a few times by Ramos and Torres and ended up going quite narrow, allowing the Spaniards time on the wing which fortunately for him they did not benefit from.

Dempsey 8.0 - Flicked in a lovely ball to Altidore for the opening goal and he deserved his goal for the determination he showed throughout the match.

Bradley 6.0 - Worked incredibly hard in the midfield to close down the likes of Xavi and Fabregas but the red card late on, whether deserved or not, taints his display.

Clark 7.0 - Another who worked hard to shut down Spain and made a superb block to deny Ramos in the second-half.

Donovan 7.0 - Some great deliveries from set-pieces and also created the second goal with a teasing ball into the box from the right.

Altidore 7.5 - Would have been desperate to score this evening and will no doubt be delighted that it was his Villarreal team-mate Capdevila who he turned for his goal. Even though he looked a little inexperienced at times with some of his passing, he worked hard and showed great determination.

Davies 5.5 - Tried a spectacular overhead kick early on that went wide but drifted out of the game as it went on and was taken off by Bradley.

SUBS

Bornstein 6.5 - Like the rest of the team he worked hard and gave everything he had to stop the Spaniards.

Failhaber 6.5 - Came on late but added some energy to the side and defended well.

Casey 5.5 - Played a few poor passes after coming on when he could have done better.
