Erick 'Cubo' Torres returns to Dynamo after Cruz Azul loan

The Mexican club turned down the chance to purchase the striker, who will return to his parent club in MLS.

The Houston Dynamo have announced that Erick "Cubo" Torres will return to the club after Cruz Azul declined its option to purchase the striker.

Torres, 23, was sent on loan to the Liga MX club on Sept. 3 and Cruz Azul opted to send the forward back to Houston following the expiration of the loan on Dec. 31.

The Mexican forward failed to see the field much with Cruz Azul. A knee injury limited Torres to just 44 minutes of action over three substitute appearances with the club. He did manage to score a goal during his brief time on the pitch.

Torres arrived in Houston with big expectations, but has failed to score a goal in 22 league appearances since his 2015 arrival. The designated player initially made a big impact in MLS, notching 22 goals in a season and a half with Chivas USA in 2013 and 2014.

New Dynamo head coach Wilmer Cabrera was in charge of Chivas USA during a majority of that period, offering some hope that Torres will be able to turn around his Houston career.
